Silvertip Golf

Canmore, Alberta

Majestic Mountain Golf Experience

Silvertip in Canmore, Alberta – a slice of heaven on Earth. My wife surprised me with this unforgettable golf trip as part of our 5th wedding anniversary on our way to Banff. From the moment we pulled up to the property, I knew this was going to be something special.

The pro shop is a golfer’s dream—well-stocked with all the essentials (and temptations), while the staff are knowledgeable, welcoming, and passionate about the game. Arrive early—not just to take in the jaw-dropping scenery, but also to enjoy complimentary range balls at their excellent practice facility.

🌿 Course Conditions

Silvertip’s course conditions were, for the most part, top-tier. The fairways were lush and well-maintained, offering a nice balance of forgiveness and challenge depending on your tee position. The ball sat up well and the turf felt responsive—always a good sign that the grounds crew knows their stuff.

The greens were quick but fair, rolling consistently across most holes with only slight variations in pace depending on sun exposure and elevation. There were a couple of spots where a green or fringe felt a touch patchy compared to the rest, but nothing that took away from the overall experience. You could tell they’ve put serious work into managing the course given the rugged mountain terrain.

Bunkers were clean and playable, with fluffy sand that gave you a fighting chance—although you’ll want to avoid them on the downhill holes unless you’re feeling bold.

With dramatic elevation changes throughout the course, drainage can often be an issue at mountain tracks—but not here. Even with some moisture in the air, everything drained beautifully and played firm but fair.

Overall, Silvertip was in excellent condition during my visit. It’s the kind of course where even if your scorecard isn’t something to brag about, you’ll still walk off the 18th green smiling and satisfied.

🛠️ Design & Playability

Silvertip is a masterclass in mountain golf design, crafted by Les Furber to both challenge and inspire. The layout takes full advantage of the rugged terrain, with dramatic elevation changes, tight landing zones, and breathtaking sightlines that make every hole memorable. It’s a true shot-maker’s course—rewarding precision and smart course management over raw power. Despite its championship pedigree, it’s surprisingly playable for all skill levels thanks to five tee options, offering a fair test whether you’re a scratch golfer or a weekend warrior. From risk-reward par 5s to elevated greens that demand your full attention, Silvertip keeps you thinking from the first swing to the final putt.

⛳ Experience Summary

Silvertip was more than just a round of golf—it was a full-on experience. From the moment we drove onto the property, the mountain views and serene setting set the tone for something special. The staff were welcoming, the facilities were top-notch, and the complimentary range session gave me time to dial in before teeing off. The cart ride to hole one was unexpectedly thrilling, and the course itself delivered on every level—beautiful, challenging, and thoughtfully designed. Even with a couple of minor maintenance spots, the conditions were solid throughout. After the round, we enjoyed a fantastic meal overlooking the 18th green, soaking in the views one last time.

Whether you're there for the golf, the atmosphere, or both, Silvertip delivers a memorable, high-elevation golf adventure you won't forget.
